14 Kidnapped Victims Rescued By Police In Edo State

 

14 people who were abducted in Akoko-Edo local government area on their way to Ilorin, Kwara state for a wedding ceremony, were freed on Friday by the Edo State Police Command.

The victims were among those kidnapped in two posh buses as they travelled from Benue state to an Ilorin wedding celebration, according to the police image maker, SP Chidi Nwabuzor, who made the announcement in a statement made accessible to newsmen in Benin.

He claimed that on November 24, 2022, at 4 o’clock along the Lagos-Abuja Road, Ikeran Oke, Ibillo, in the Akoko-Edo Local Government Area of Edo State, abducted the victims.

The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) Ibillo Division informed the police command of the incident at around 5:15 p.m. on Thursday, according to the PPRO.

According to the state police image maker, five people were rescued on Friday and nine people were rescued on Thursday. Unspecified numbers of the victims were still missing, the image maker added.

Nwabuzor states, “The Command at about 5:15pm received the information that hoodlums who were operating at the aforementioned location under Ibillo Divisional Police Headquarters in Edo State, attacked and kidnapped the passengers of two Costal Buses who were travelling from Benue State to Ilorin, Kwara State for a wedding ceremony but en route Ibillo town in Edo State.

“Upon learning of the incident, the DPO promptly summoned the patrol team, Army personnel, Edo State Security Network employees, and local hunters to the bush, resulting in the recovery of nine (9) casualties while an undetermined number remained missing.

Early this morning, Friday, November 25, 2022. As the DPO and the security guys began vigorous bush-combing efforts in an effort to perhaps rescue all the passengers, five (5) further passengers (victims) were rescued from inside the bush, he claimed.

Nwabuzor added that Mohammed Dankwara, the state’s commissioner of police, has committed to see to it that all of the abducted victims are freed and returned to their relatives and loved ones.

He stated that the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Ibillo has been given orders by the commissioner to coordinate with the tactical units of the command to make sure that the other victims are released without injury.

But he cautioned the families and loved ones of the abducted people to maintain their composure.
