Coronavirus: WHO releases list of African countries with highest cases, deaths
The World Health Organization, WHO, Regional Office for Africa in Brazzaville, Congo, has said that the number of Coronavirus (COVID-19) cases in Africa has risen to over 56,000 in the past 24 hours.
The UN health agency gave the update on its official Twitter account on Saturday.
According to the tweet, COVID-19 has killed 2,100 people in the continent, while more than 19,100 patients have recovered.
“Over 56,000 confirmed COVID-19 cases on the African continent – with more than 19,100 associated recoveries & 2,100 deaths,” it said.
The WHO African Region COVID-19 dashboard showed that South Africa is the highest in Africa with 8,895 cases and 178 deaths, followed by Egypt with 7981 cases and 482 deaths, Morocco has 5661 cases and 185 deaths, while Algeria has 5369 cases and 488 deaths.
Meanwhile, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) announced that another 386 new cases of COVID-19 were confirmed in the last 24 hours, bringing to 3,912 the number of confirmed cases in the country as of Friday night.
