Edo Police Command Parades 23 Suspects For Alleged Cultism, Kidnapping, & Child Abduction

The Edo State Police Command has apprehended 23 individuals allegedly involved in a range of crimes, including cultism, kidnapping, and child abduction, according to a press briefing held on Friday by the Commissioner of Police, Umoru Ozigi.

Of the suspects paraded, 19 were arrested for cult-related activities, while four are accused of child abduction. The arrests took place across various locations in Edo State, including Benin, Jattu/Ibie road in Etsako West, Benin-Agbor Road bypass, Benin-Lagos Expressway, and Comprehensive Road off Warrake Road in Auchi.

Commissioner Ozigi stated, “These arrests are part of the command’s ongoing efforts to curb cult-related killings and violent crimes across Edo State.” He added that the suspects were members of notorious cult groups, including the Eiye Confraternity, Vikings, Aye Confraternity (also known as Black Axe), and Buccaneers, who have reportedly been terrorizing communities.

Recovered items included nine pump-action guns, three single-barrel guns, two fabricated Beretta pistols, three cut-to-size guns, 82 live cartridges, 14 expended cartridges, a battle axe, a gun muffler, and a Lexus ES 330 vehicle.

The Commissioner expressed gratitude to residents for their cooperation in providing information that has been instrumental in combating crime, assuring the public that the command remains committed to maintaining peace and safety across the state.

Some of the suspects reportedly confessed to their involvement in the crimes, detailing their roles during brief interviews with police officials. The command confirmed that once investigations are complete, the suspects will be formally charged in court.
