TEAM Up Tools for Entertainment and Media

English and Spanish-language resources for entertainment creators and journalists announced at the White House National Mental Health Conference are provided through the TEAM Up Tools for Entertainment and Media initiative. The toolkit and additional resources including tips on interviewing people living with mental illness, story ideas and entertainment depiction suggestions are available at eiconline.org/teamup. The National Association of Broadcasters is working with member television and radio stations to amplify the TEAM Up message through nationally distributed public service announcements addressing mental health in America.

SAMHSA Tools for E-marking 

SAMHSA’s four-part educational webcast series, The Power of Language and Portrayals: What We Hear, What We See, focuses on substance use disorders (SUD) and how language and portrayals affect perceptions. Developed in partnership with the Entertainment Industries Council, the webcasts are designed to help journalists and entertainment creators use the best possible language in portrayals of people with SUD. Each webcast features panel discussions with behavioral health professionals, entertainment creators, and individuals in recovery.

The webcasts cover the following topics:

  • Trauma and Peer Engagement
  • Treatment and Recovery: Research to Practice
  • Inside Treatment and Recovery: A Look at the Transition
  • Substance Use Disorders and Other Health-related Issues in Primary Care

A Conversation with Actor Michael Cudlitz  

TV personality Jason Wahler speaks on-one with PRISM Award winning actor and “Walking Dead” and “Southland” star Michael Cudlitz to discuss the impact of authentic storytelling. Michael earned his PRISM Award for his portrayal of John Cooper, a police officer who struggled with an addiction to pain killers after an injury. Watch it here!
