An Enugu State magistrate court has ordered Mrs. Ada Ogbogu to remain in custody for allegedly injuring her three-year-old stepson with a pestle.
Police told the court that on October 23, 2024, Mrs. Ogbogu poured hot water on the child’s face and hit him with a pestle, dislocating his left leg. The charge against her is serious, and if convicted, she could face life imprisonment.
The case, marked CME/646C/2024, was heard by Chief Magistrate Alphonsus Edeh, who denied her bail and set the next court date for November 26, 2024, when a report from the Director of Public Prosecutions is expected.
Enugu State’s Commissioner for Children, Gender Affairs, and Social Development, Mrs. Ngozi Enih, emphasized the state’s commitment to protecting children, saying the government would ensure the case is handled thoroughly.
She noted that Governor Peter Mbah’s administration is committed to swift action against child abuse in Enugu State.
