Stadia in a post viral era
Distancing and touching – these are the key issues to be addressed by post-COVID architecture, including future football stadia developments, according to a study “Architecture for a post viral era” by architecture studio Fenwick Iribarren. Most “no touch” solutions are already available, while distancing could lead to capacity reductions. Implementing such solutions may be costly, and reduced capacity would lead to a decrease in future matchday revenues, too. In this article we elaborate on how the coronavirus pandemic may influence the architecture and design of stadia in the future, and on its potential impacts on stadium capacity and matchday revenue.
