Gov. Ganduje Empowers 60 Street Beggars With N10,000 And Skills

Following the ban o street begging in Kano state, the government has empowered 60 women and youths with entrepreneurial skills.

Ganduje Dr. Zahra’u Muhammad-Umar, the State’s Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, made the announcement.

She made it known while speaking at the presentation of the empowerment program to the beneficiaries in the state.

Umar confirmed that some of the beneficiaries were picked from the street and under the bridges.

She said the government was obliged to empower women and other weak and vulnerable persons in the state. She also said the package is extended to people living with disabilities for them to take care of themselves so as to quit street begging.

The program beneficiaries were given N10,000 each with a sewing machine, soya beans, beans millet, rice, freezers, small generating sets, and many other valuable things.

Admonishing the beneficiaries, she said, there will be mentoring and follow-up to ensure that they are doing what we have taught them and make sure they do not sell the goods. As you have been given empowerment package, anyone found on the street again will be taken to court,” she told the beneficiaries.

She also commended the effort of the governor, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, for his support to lift many people from poverty and street begging.
