Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun has issued a stern condemnation of police extortion following allegations against four officers from the Zone 16 Zonal Headquarters in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State. The officers—ASP Emmanuel Ubong, Inspector Nse Okon, Inspector Adiewere Collins, and Inspector Kuromare Marine—are accused of extorting ₦10 million from a group of young Nigerians.
In a statement released on Friday, Force Public Relations Officer ACP Olumiyiwa Adejobi confirmed that the alleged sum has been recovered, with the intervention of the new Assistant Inspector-General of Police for Zone 16. The accused officers are currently detained and face an orderly room trial.
“The Nigeria Police Force, under IGP Egbetokun’s leadership, enforces a zero-tolerance stance on corruption and misconduct,” Adejobi emphasized, adding that the Force treats allegations of extortion and abuse of power with utmost seriousness.
The IGP reassured the public of the Force’s commitment to transparency, pledging that all allegations against officers would be thoroughly investigated. Egbetokun also mandated severe penalties for any officer found guilty of such misconduct, regardless of rank, as part of his drive to uphold the integrity of the Nigeria Police Force and deter future misconduct.
