The party also called for the arrest and prosecution of the Iyaloja General of Nigeria, Mrs. Folashade Tinubu Ojo, over alleged coercion of traders to support the candidature of All Progressives Congress, APC, Presidential Candidate, Bola Tinubu, her father.

LP’s National Publicity Secretary, comrade Arabambi Oluwafemi, made the calls in a statement on Monday.

The party wanted Buhari, who is also the Commander-In-Chief of Armed Forces, to declare the emergency before it is too late, saying “a stich in time saves nine.”

According to Arabambi:

“The party is worried that our members are being subjected to daily attacks by the agents of the PDP in Delta state.

“If this goes unchecked it is capable of causing the breakdown of law and order and a full recipe for anarchy capable of truncating the 2023 General Elections.”

He however, appealed to members to continue in a peaceful manner and remain law abiding, assuring that, “LP will do all legally possible to protect our rights.

“PDP Vice Presidential candidate, should focus his attention on the real enemies within his party and stop pursuing perceived enemies.”

On the arrest of Tinubu-Ojo, a video had gone viral over the weeks where shops belonging to traders who failed to attend the women’s rally in support of Tinubu’s ambition were shut.

The affected traders alleged that they were being forced to pay the sum of N5,000 as fine.

“This action is not in consonant with the tenets of democracy. Every Nigerian is entitled to associate with any political party of their choice.”

Quoting the Law, Arabambi said constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria guarantee the freedom of association.

According to him,

“Section 40 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 provides as follows: “Every person shall be entitled to assembly freely and associate with other persons, and in particular he may form or belong to any political party, trade union or any association for the protection of his interests.

“Thus, the urgent call has become necessary going by the recurring attacks on members of Labour party and our offices in Lagos.”

He recalled the attack on the Labour Party offices in Ajegunle and other areas in Lagos, such as; Oshodi area of Lagos.

According to him, the State Police Command has refused to act on its clarion calls to create an enabling environment for all politicians in Lagos irrespective of their party’s affiliation.
