Kanam Local Government Area of Plateau State was rocked by tragedy on Thursday, November 7, 2024, when operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) allegedly shot and killed a young man, Faisal Yakubu Hussaini, during a raid. The incident took place in Dangi, where the NDLEA reportedly fired gunshots to disperse local youth, resulting in Hussaini’s death, according to sources in the community.

Local leaders are condemning the incident, demanding accountability for what they describe as an extrajudicial killing. The Chairman and Secretary of the Kanam Development Association (KADA), Barrister G. Aliyu and N.D. Shehu Kanam, spoke with Daily Trust, voicing outrage over the alleged actions of the NDLEA officers.

In an official statement, KADA’s secretary expressed the community’s grief and anger: “The leadership of Kanam Development Association (KADA) is deeply outraged and saddened by the extrajudicial killing of Faisal Yakubu Hussaini Adafa by NDLEA officers in Dangi, Kanam LGA of Plateau State. This heinous act violates the fundamental human rights of the victim, and we demand the immediate arrest and prosecution of the officers involved.”

He urged the local youth to remain calm and law-abiding, assuring that legal measures are underway to address the situation and that KADA will pursue justice relentlessly.
