News INEC declares Adeleke Osun governor-elect

 

In the Osun governorship election held on Saturday, July 16, 2022, Senator Ademola Adeleke of the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP) has been proclaimed the victor.

Adeleke received 403,371 PDP votes, defeating Oyetola and the APC with 375,027, and 2,729 Labour Party, LP votes for Lasun Yusuf.

To return the stated votes, Adeleke defeated Oyetola in 13 local government areas and won in 17 of them.

Adeleke was declared the winner of the election by the Independent NationalElectoral Commission, INEC‘s returning officer, Vice Chancellor Professor Oluwatoyin Ogundipe of the University of Lagos.

The returning officer declared the results, saying, “I, Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, hereby affirm that I am the returning officer for the governorship election held on Saturday, July 16, and the candidate polled the following votes… Isiaka Gboyega Oyetola, 375,027 for APC,…. Ademola.

Ademola Adeleke Jackson Nurudeen is hereby proclaimed the winner and is re-elected, having complied with all legal conditions.

The outcome aheet was signed by all party agents.

In 2018, Adeleke ran against the incumbent Governor for the position of governor; he fell short by just 350 votes.

PDP Caretaker Chairman Dr. Akindele Adekunle responded to the announcement by describing the result as a win for the state’s whole population.

Although it was expected because we travelled to every corner of the state to promote our candidate to a people that wanted change and demonstrated that desire at the polls.

We won’t fail the people. Our responsibility is to repay their faith in us.
