According to police spokesperson Olumuyiwa Adejobi, a search of the suspects’ hideout resulted in the seizure of ten locally fabricated AK-47 rifles, five Israeli-made AK-47 rifles, one revolver pistol, one pump-action rifle, 20 rounds of AK-47 ammunition, and a welding machine used for fabricating firearms. The suspects, identified as Adamu Noma, Matthew Audu, Andrew Poyi, Aminu Sani, and Aminu Talha, were paraded before journalists in Abuja on Friday. Adejobi highlighted that the operation was carried out by operatives from the Force Intelligence Bureau-Intelligence Response Team (FID-IRT), who successfully tracked down the criminal group involved in cross-border arms trafficking. “This significant recovery is a testament to the commitment of the Nigeria Police in curbing criminal activities and dismantling networks of illegal arms trade,” Adejobi stated. He further emphasized that the seizure and arrests underscore the leadership’s determination to tackle the growing insecurity in the country, and pledged continued action against criminal enterprises. The Inspector-General of Police, Dr. Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, reiterated his directive to police operatives, particularly tactical units, to aggressively pursue the removal of illicit arms and dismantle local arms manufacturers. He affirmed that these efforts are vital in restoring peace and security across the nation. |
