Nigerian Man Mocks New Unemployment Statistics Released by NBS As He Compares it to Canada's

A Nigerian man recently sparked conversations on Twitter by commenting on the increasing trend of Nigerians relocating to Canada, even in the face of low employment opportunities in the country. His tweet touched on the challenges many immigrants face, such as underemployment and the difficulty of finding jobs in their fields of expertise despite holding advanced degrees and professional certifications.

The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) on Monday, November 25, announced that Nigeria’s unemployment rate decreased to 4.3% in the second quarter (Q2) of 2024, marking a decline from 5.3% in the previous quarter (Q1 2024). In  October, Statistics Canada reported that the unemployment in the country was at 6.5 per cent, while job growth was little changed from the previous month.

Comparing the unemployment rate in both countries with Canada getting the lower data, the Twitter user suggested that Nigerians relocating to Canada are doing so just to experience the cold weather, particularly the ‘snow.’
