The Peoples Democratic Party has congratulated Nigerian Muslim faithful on the successful completion of the 2020 Ramadan fast and the celebration of Eid-el-Fitri.

The PDP urged those in leadership positions to commit themselves to transparency and urged Nigerians to seek God’s remedy for failed leadership.

In a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbodiyan, the party urged all compatriots to exhibit the virtues imbibed during the Ramadan fast in all aspects of life.

The statement read in part, “The PDP urges Nigerians, particularly leaders at all levels, not to lose sight of the essence of the Eid-el-fitr and the eternal lessons of Ramadan, but bring them to bear by living in truth, selflessness, tolerance, forbearance, honesty and transparency in all their dealings.”

Meanwhile a former Vice President and presidential candidate of the PDP in the 2019 general elections, Atiku Abubakar, has enjoined the Muslim Ummah to see the COVID-19 pandemic as a test from Allah just as he urged all to continue to abide by the regulations issued by health authorities.

Atiku’s message, which was issued by his media office, read in part, “We fasted this year without spiritual acts of worship that accompany the holy month of Ramadan, like attending tafsir (evening sermons before breaking of fast), sharing of iftar with family, friends and the needy, and even the voluntary seclusion during the last 10 days of the blessed Ramadan.

The is just as the National Chairman of the party, Uche Secondus, urged Nigerians, especially the Muslim Ummah, to use the period of Eid-el-Fitri to pray God to rescue the country from failed leadership.

In a statement signed by his media adviser, Ike Abonyi, in Abuja, on Saturday, Secondus said, “The five years of the APC administration has set the country dangerously backwards and only deep supplications in solemn times like this can make us see the face of the creator.

On his part, Atiku’s running mate in the 2019 presidential election, Mr Peter Obi, urged Muslims in the country to pray for God to re-engineer the country and position it for true greatness.

Obi, in a statement signed by his media adviser, Valentine Obienyem, on Saturday said, “I urge you Muslims therefore to use this period to pray fervently to Allah to forgive us our trespasses and help rescue the country from the lack of direction inherent in her political leadership.”

In a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, on Saturday, the All Progressives Congress prayed Allah to accede to all Muslims’  prayers and accept their fasting as an act of worship.

The party also expressed hope that the important lessons of Ramadan, including personal sacrifice, charity, sobriety and self-discipline, would not cease to be part of their ways of life in the months and years ahead.

The APC said, “At this critical period of our nation’s history, these noble virtues should continue to guide our daily activities, as we strive to fulfil our duties as good citizens of this great country and stay safe amid the COVID-19 global pandemic.

“In our continuous efforts to stem the spread of this virus, the APC urges all Nigerians to adhere to public health guidelines and instructions, including safe distancing, use of facemasks at public places among others.”
