Turkish side Basaksehir plunged Tuesday’s Champions League meeting with Paris Saint-Germain into chaos when the entire team stormed off the field just over 20 minutes into the first half, alleging that the club’s assistant coach had been racially abused by a member of the refereeing team.
Pierre Webo, an ex-Cameroon international striker who played for the likes of Uruguay’s Nacional, Osasuna, Fenerbahce and Mallorca before joining Okan Buruk’s Basaksehir backroom staff in 2019, was filmed by television cameras in a furious exchange with one of referee Ovidiu Hategan’s assistants.

The coach was sent off for his part in the argument, but he and his club accused the official of racial abuse.

“Our assistant coach Pierre Webo was the victim of racism, but Webo was expelled from the game,” the Turkish side explained on its official Twitter account.
