The management of the University College Hospital, Ibadan said, on Sunday, that it had converted part of its East 2 Ward to expand the hospital’s capacity to handle COVID-19 cases.

The hospital, in a statement by its COVID-19 media team, quoted the Chief Medical Director, Prof. Jesse Otegbayo, as saying that the step became necessary so as to cope with the dreaded virus.

According to the statement, the former MDR building (Damien Foundation), being undertaken by the UCH Health Foundation, is being re-equipped as isolation centre.

It read in part:

“In the meantime, the hospital has not recorded any new case of COVID-19 in almost 24 hours. The new case mentioned earlier is asymptomatic and is on self-quarantine. On a positive note, a member of staff previously being managed at home has returned two negative tests hence, discharged from follow-up.

”The University College Hospital will continue to render excellent care and services to all our patients.”
