The appointment and turbanning of a traditional ruler by Governor Darius Dickson Ishaku of Taraba State to oversee the traditional affairs of Ndola community in Kurmi local government council have begun to raise dust.

Taraba State Community Fumes Over Alleged Imposition Of Monarch

The community on Tuesday expressed anger over the appointment through a statement made available to journalists in Jalingo, alleging that the appointed monarch hails from a different community and not Ndola.

The statement signed by the community’s spokesperson, Abraham McSambo said,

“The news of the appointment and abrupt turbanning of the monarch by the state government on the 23rd March 2023 has left over 95 percent of Ndola people of Kurmi local government in a state of disquiet and dismay.

”The monarch in question is not from the Madaki Tabena ruling house which is the only existing ruling house in the Chiefdom and has no Ndola royal background in Kurmi local government area”.

Reeling out the historical background of the Ndola traditional stool, he said the Madaki Tabena ruling house is highly revered and is an ancient ruling house in the history of Ndola Chiefdom.

The community maintained that the turbaned monarch is not also of Ndola maternal ancestry, insisting that the event was shocking and has left the community in mourning.

“The peace-loving and law-abiding people of Ndola chiefdom are grieved, they are crying silently, wondering how the governor used his hands to destroy and bastardise the creation of the Ndola Chiefdom which the Ndola people regard as the best fruit of democracy availed to them under his administration, with such a heart-aching, unjust and illegal appointment.”

The spokesperson said it was not too late for the governor to insert the right peg in the right hole before leaving the office, as such a move will bring the much-needed peace to the community and the council at large.

The turbanned monarch in question was among the seven traditional rulers presented with the staff of office on the 23rd of last month by the outgoing state governor.
