Tinubu: Subsidy Is Fraud; You Can’t Mention One Person In Whose Account Subsidy Is Being Paid – Sani

A former Senator from Kaduna State, Senator Shehu Sani, has hinted that some elements in power are benefiting from fuel subsidy; as he insisted that it is a fraud because Nigerians only know filling stations but not accounts in which the Federal Government pays fuel subsidy.

Sani had said, “Who are these people that are being paid in millions, billions, and now in trillions? And secondly, we have been paying this subsidy for a very long time, but in most cases, it has not stopped price hike or shortage of this essential component of energy. I believe the best time to take a bold economic decision is now. President Buhari tried it but failed because of fear of possible uprising and protests by civil organizations. This subsidy is clearly a fraud; some people are benefiting from it. As a Nigerian, you know petrol; you know petrol station; you know who owns petrol; but you can’t mention the name of one person in those accounts this subsidy has been paid.”

The former lawmaker, who spoke during an interview on Arise Television, hinted that some elements in power are benefiting from fuel subsidy, hence, the reason for hike in petrol price. He insisted that the closure of filling stations, and the hike in petrol price are ways of blackmailing the Government into paying subsidy that has done no good to the economy.

Sani said no Nigerian could mention one person in whose account subsidy is being paid. He urged Tinubu not to bow to pressure, but to ensure that fuel subsidy is completely removed.
