We’re investigating alleged drowning of military cadet in Abia hotel — Police

The Abia State Police Command, has said that investigations had commenced over the alleged drowning of an Air force personnel in one of the foremost hotels (name withheld) in Umuahia, the state capital.

Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Moureen Chinaka, told Saturday Vanguard that the attention of the Central Police Station , CPS, Umuahia had been drawn to the incident, and an investigation had commenced.

Meanwhile, when our correspondent visited the said hotel located close to the Abia seat of power, the receptionist declined to comment on the matter.

Upon inquiry for the contact of the Manager, she claimed that the Manager and his team had all gone out for investigation over the matter, and asked our correspondent to check again the next day.

According to social media reports, an Air Force cadet (name withheld) reportedly died in a swimming pool of the said hotel last Tuesday. A source which pleaded anonymity, was quoted as saying that the deceased went to the facility to swim at a time the pool was undergoing renovation.

The deceased’s body was said to have been recovered later by men of the Abia State Fire Service and rushed to the Federal Medical Centre Umuahia, where he was confirmed dead.
