Brave Morocco finally lose, as France reach W’Cup final

Morocco’s journey in the World Cup ended on Wednesday as France defeated the African side 2-0 at the Al Bayt Stadium in Qatar.

The Atlas Lions’ tenacious run came to an end in the semi-final after they upset a Cristiano Ronaldo-led Portugal in the quarter-final and advanced to the semifinals, becoming the first African team and the first Arabian team to ever make it to a World Cup final.

Theo Hernandez opened the scoring in the game’s opening minutes, while replacement Randal Kolo Muani gave the European team the victory in the 79th.

Even though Morocco made things difficult for France, they were unable to catch up to the reigning champs.

Prior to the quarterfinal encounter against Portugal, Morocco’s coach, Walid Regragui, stated that the entire continent of Africa was firmly behind Morocco going into the match after they sent Spain home with a fantastic victory in the round of 16 knockout stage.

We have nothing to lose, the coach proclaimed. On the eve of the match against Portugal, Regragui said, “The challenge is to perform as well as we did in the previous games.

“We want to demonstrate that Africa and Morocco both deserve to be here.

“We have an entire people, a continent, and the Arab world supporting us. Behind us, there is a lot of energy. We’ll make an effort to the best of our abilities.

“We can accomplish it and once more make history. It (the support) can motivate us and actually enable us to play under duress without faltering.

With only one goal allowed in five games, Morocco held the best defensive record in the competition up until their semi-final encounter against France.
