Gunmen invade Ebonyi community, shoot one

On Wednesday, gunmen raided the famed Nwakpu Market in the Ndufu-Alike town of the Ikwo Local Government Area of the state, shot a motorcyclist in the head there, and set a car on fire.

On Wednesday morning, after traders had already begun their shifts, according to a community source who spoke to our correspondent under the condition of anonymity, the gunmen invaded the market.

The Deputy Governor of Ebonyi StateEric Kelechi, resides across from the Nwakpu market, according to The PUNCH.

According to the source, “The gunmen entered the market and gave orders for vendors and store owners to leave. Also instructed is to watch the sit-at-home.”

The assailants shot and killed the business owners and traders before torching a car. They (the shooters) opened fire on the car owner (name withheld) as he made an effort to put out the fire.

Additionally, business operations were suspended on Wednesday in the nation’s capital, Abakaliki, as gas stations, banks, and event venues were closed ostensibly in compliance with the sit-at-home directive.

According to Mr. Friday Nnanna, Commander of the Ebubeagu Security Outfit, who confirmed the occurrence, the attackers were not Indigenous People of Biafra but rather common hoodlums who broke into the market to loot sellers of their stuff.
